A Problem Solving Approach

Long ago we discovered that almost every assignment, from dispute resolution to strategy planning to conflict management consulting, benefits from the early application of a simple problem solving approach. 

Consequently, every brief we receive gets the same intake (initial) treatment:

  1. Identify, as much as possible, all of the people, problems, issues, interests and needs involved.
  2. Assess, as much as possible, all of the people, problems, issues, interests and needs involved.

This intake process enables us to design and implement a response that is more likely to produce the best possible outcome, as quickly and as cost-effectively as possible.

The response is also delivered in two stages:

  1. Design the response - select the most suitable people and processes for the parties and the problem.
  2. Implement the response - start working on solving the problem / resolving the dispute.

This entire process is usually completed with several phone calls or meetings, and/or with the help of a Preliminary Planning Meeting. 

As soon as we are ready to start working on the problem itself, we use a similarly structured, four stage approach.

Our 4 stage methodology looks like this:
